Assignment 1: Portraits and Utilizing Studio Lighting
In these three photos, I took the portraits in front of a grey and black background. In the first photo, we used the grey background and had a bright light shining on Mr. Meehan. In the second photo, we sat in front of the black background and had a light and white paper to brighten up Gina and the photo. In the last picture, we used the grey background again and used the bright light on Sam. These images are different than a simple ID photo because we took these photos with multiple lights flashing on us and we were in a bright space. The different lighting techniques we used was we would increase the ISO option. Another technique we did was we got a white piece of paper and had someone stand on the outside so we could get more light on the person, especially in the second photo. The feeling and mood in these three photos are all happy and lighthearted. All three people are smiling/laughing and you can see the mood very clearly. The light really brightens up the photo and shines on the person's emotions. What we could have done to heighten the mood was used more than one light and to have an even brighter background to make the person stand out more.
Assignment 3: Double Exposure
In this assignment, we had to take two photos that we felt would blend well together to suggest a mood. I chose these two photos because this is one of my favorite self portraits I took of Mr. Meehan and I really liked the background picture which was the brick wall of the school. I thought these would blend well together because they are both in black and white and each picture makes each other stand out. The message/mood conveyed in this combination is dark but bright at the same time. The picture is in black and white but from Mr. Meehan's facial expressions, it makes the picture a little more lighter/happier. I like how these two images came together. Parts of the picture that were successful is the background coming through Mr. Meehan's face and shirt. I think because of the fact that the brick wall is coming through his self portrait really makes the background stand out. What I would like to touch up is maybe brightening the picture just a little bit more to show more of Mr. Meehan's face, but other than that I'm really happy with the way these two photos combined.
Assignment 4: Favorite Person, Place, and Thing
These three images I took are my favorite person, place, and thing. My favorite person is my best friend Gabby, my favorite place is the beach, and my favorite thing is Netflix. Gabby is my favorite person because she's been my best friend since sixth grade and she's one of the greatest people in my life and I couldn't live without her, so it was only right to put her as my favorite person. The beach is my favorite place because I'm never upset at the beach. Everyone's happy at the beach soaking up the sun and playing in the water. The last picture is my favorite thing which is Netflix. When I'm really tired after a long day at school, I love to get home and watch my favorite t.v show on netflix. I think these images were successful because they were the first things that came to my mind when I first heard the assignment and I think they're overall nice pictures. I bring the viewer's emotional attachment because in the first picture you see how happy Gabby is, in the second picture you see how beautiful the beach day is, and the third you see the opening of Netflix. If I was someone's favorite person I would want to be photographed in the outdoors and I would want the camera close up to show my features. I would be smiling and looking really happy in the picture.
